The Qiangs dress themselves simply but beautifully. Men and women alike wear blue gowns made of gunny cloth, cotton and silk with sleeveless wool jackets. They also bind their legs and wrap their heads with black or white turbans. Women's clothes are are laced and somewhat brighter, with collars decorated with plum-shaped silver ornaments. The women also wear sharp-pointed and embroidered shoes, embroidered girdles and earrings, necklaces, hairpins and silver badges.

Nowadays, the Qiang people generally wear various modern clothes made of cotton, silk or manmade fiber, and clothes with distinctive ethnic flavor. Some officials and students wear Han-style costume.
