Han Clothes
One of the characteristics of Han people's costume is that the front of the upper garments is buttoned on the right. In the late years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and early years of the Republic of China, men usually wore a shirt with buttons down the front, trousers and a long gown over it buttoned on the right or topped with a waistcoat. The trousers they wore had a waist part measuring eight inches wide, and a big crotch. Women usually wore a short shirt buttoned on the right, and trousers.
Nowadays, most of the Han men wear Sun Yat-sen Uniforms, western suits, shirts, jackets and western trousers, while most women wear short coats, shirts, trousers, skirts and cheongsams in various styles.
In ancient times, the Han men never shaved their head but coiled their hair on the top of the head. In the Qing Dynasty, they shaved the front part of the head and plaited the rest hair. After the Republic of China, they cut off the plaits and kept short hair. In ancient times, women of the Han people mostly arranged their hair into a bun on the top of the head. In modern times, more and more women just kept short hair.
