Liti Motai
Liti Motai, whose original name was Timothy Richard, was a priest of British Baptist Church founded in 1792. In 1859 priests from the Baptist church began to missionize in China and their main activity areas were Shandong, Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces. Timothy came to China in 1870 and missionized in Shandong and some other provinces in northern China in the initial period.
He established close ties with many government officials such as Li Hongzhang, Zhang Zhidong and also some influential people such as Kang Youwei, Sun Yat-sen. He introduced western culture to Chinese intellectuals through missionary work and exerted significant influence on Chinese Reform Movement.
