Emmannuel Diaz (Yang Manuo)

Emmanuel Diaz, a Portuguese, entered the Chinese mainland in 1610 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and began to missionize in Guangzhou.

From 1614 to1615, he acted as the head of the China and Japan Parish. In 1623, he became the chief of the China Parish of the Society of Jesus.

In 1626, he went to Nanjing City, later to Shanghai and Hangzhou cities, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces. Afterwards, he settled down in Hangzhou. In 1659, he died there.
